SUMMARY:Mark Winne - Food Rebels\, Guerrilla Gardeners\, and Smart-Cookin' Mamas\: Fighting Back in an Age of Industrial Agriculture
DESCRIPTION:
We welcome Mark to celebrate the release of the paperback of his book!

Agribusiness giants don't want you to know-or care-if the food you eat is genetically modified\, factory farmed\, or grown with toxic chemicals. But the rapidly growing alternative food movement is resisting these practices and helping people reclaim their connections to their food. A forty-year veteran of this movement\, Mark Winne introduces us to innovative \\"local doers\\" defying industrial agribusiness and leading the charge to bring nutritious\, sustainable\, and affordable food to all. All across the country\, these leaders are turning urban wastelands into farms\, creating local dairy collectives\, preserving farmland\, bringing food education to children and adults in diabetes-prone neighborhoods\, promoting food democracy\, and empowering communities. Winne's hope is that all of these efforts\, scaled up and adopted more widely\, will ultimately allow the alternative food system to dethrone the industrial-and he challenges us to go beyond eating local to become part of a larger solution\, demanding a system that sustains body and soul.

DESCRIPTION:
About Walking Earth\: Readers must strap in for a fast and perilous ride through the Navajo's Dinetah and Utah's canyon country. Young Navajo Kika Windsong and her daredevil boyfriend\, Howie Parker\, set out to recover the world's most treasured archaeological artifacts. Twelve of the artifacts are incised with a code etched as an ideogram. The world's top code breaker and a world renowned museum curator are recruited to crack it. Trace minerals link the artifacts to volcanic bedrock of Easter Island\, 10\,000 miles away. Other artifacts resemble enigmatic statues of that Pacific island. SUMMARY:Mark Raney\, Secrets of the Pueblo Universe
DESCRIPTION:
Over the years a great deal has been written about Pueblo cultures and their reverence for the heavens\, particularly for the sun and the moon. There is a third aspect to their relationship with the heavens that has received very little attention because it has largely been kept secret by the tribes. The third component of Pueblo cultures' reverence for the heavens is the focus of this book\, and that is the stars. \\"Secrets\\" revolves around matching ancient southwestern iconography to constellations and showing patterns between these constellations and modern ceremonial dates. The patterns show that most daytime ceremonies\, both current and historical\, are held when the representative constellation is at a cardinal point (defined as upper meridian passage\, lower meridian passage\, rising or setting) at sunrise on the day of the native ceremonial. Sunset ceremonies are also tied to cardinal positions but at sunset instead of sunrise. Over 60 illustrations with 20 overlays on star charts show the comparison between ancient art and the stars. A list of modern ceremonials and stellar positions at sunrise and sunset provide repeating patterns made more compelling by cross-tribal repletion. The study was further enhanced when the main ceremonial gods of the Tewa (Humpbacks\, Deer\, Turtle and Eagle) were found to be in a section of the Milky Way bisected on both sides by the ecliptic. That location meant that they were not random entities scattered throughout the universe\, increasing their significance. Their placement also coincided with a section of the Milky Way revealed in a published story by well-known 20th-century Tewa artist and writer Pablita Velarde. The book marks a giant leap in the understanding of southwestern cultures.
