First published in 1555, Cabeza de Vaca's narrative of his South American expeditions is a detailed account of his five years as governor of Spain's province of the Rio de la Plata in South America. Cabeza de Vaca was already a celebrated explorer by the time he went to La Plata, known for his great trek across North America in the 1520s and 1530s and for the Relacian he wrote about that journey. His tales of his river and forest explorations in South America show that he had lost none of his early curiosity and drive. He was the great secular champion of the native peoples of the New World and the only Spaniard to explore the coasts and interiors of two continents.
This book is one of the great first-person accounts of the Spanish conquest of the Americas in the sixteenth century. Morrow's new translation makes Cabeza deVaca's adventures available to a wide English-speaking audience for the first time.

Ras Rody has been operating a roadside farmstand in Jamaica for 20+ years. He makes traditional Rastafarian dishes utilizing produce he sources from the hills surrounding his home, and over the years his cuisine has come to provide way more than just nourishment. In fact, his restaurant operates as something of a cultural epicenter, educating its regulars on healthy eating, fostering important discussion, and teaching the young ones about their cultural roots. His self-published cookbook will help him spread the gospel worldwide. He now lives in Albuquerque's North Valley, and will be sharing his cookbook - and some delicious food samples - with Bookworks on Feb. 7.

Heaven's Daughter is the story of an unlikely trio inexplicably united during the Civil War. Noni, resilient and wise, has endured the hardship of being ripped from her African home. She lives an unimagineable life of slavery in the American South. When her daughter, Efuru, is threatened they run away. Deep in a North Carolina forest they meet Abby, a northern white girl who has just escaped her kidnapper, a Confederate soldier.
Abby and Efuru become fast friends. Journey with the girls as they grow, struggling with family relationships, prejudice and dysfunction. Watch their relationship change through war, mistakes, betrayal and love.
Heaven's Daughter invites us to examine how we work to deceive ourselves - the resulting consequences - and how forgiveness helps us heal.
