5:30pm Sunday, July 25International Teacher of Toltec Wisdom don Jose Ruiz: The Fifth Agreement

A New York Times bestseller for over seven years, The Four Agreements provides the foundation for breaking thousands of agreements that create needless suffering. International bestselling author and teacher don Miguel Ruiz has a new book, written in collaboration with his son don Jose Ruiz, who will discuss the new lesson at Bookworks. Incorporating a new agreement, "Be skeptical, but learn to listen," The Fifth Agreement (Amber Allen, $19.95) prepares us to return to our innate wisdom, and live our lives based on truth.

Don Jose Ruiz was born in Mexico City, Mexico and was raised in Tijuana, Mexico. When he was 21 he came to live in the U.S. with his father, don Miguel Ruiz. In his early twenties, don Jose lost his eyesight, and through surrender and faith in concert with modern medicine, Jose recovered his vision.

Like his father, combining new insights with ancient wisdom, don Jose Ruiz is dedicating his life to sharing the ancient Toltec wisdom by translating it into practical, everyday life concepts that promote transformation through truth, love and common sense. don Jose teaches and lectures across the United States and around the world: Power Journeys to the pyramids of Teotihuacan, Palenque, Tulum and Coba; workshops with guest don Miguel or other teachers at Omega - NY, Austin, and Vancouver.

don Jose Ruiz has now collaborated with his father don Miguel Ruiz on a new book that offers a fresh perspective on the Four Agreements, and a powerful new agreement for transforming our lives into our personal heaven: The Fifth Agreement. The Fifth Agreement takes us to a deeper level of awareness of the power of the Self, and returns us to the authenticity we were born with. In this compelling sequel to The Four Agreements, we are reminded of the greatest gift we can give ourselves: the freedom to be who we really are.

don Miguel Ruiz was born into a family of healers and raised in rural Mexico by a curandera (healer) mother and nagual (shaman) grandfather. He began teaching in the United States in 1987 with his mother Sarita, the Curandera. His students grew in numbers and his mythologies and guidance grew with them. He began to share the wisdom that resulted in the creation of The Four Agreements, when he witnessed his various students struggling to quiet their minds.

don Miguel created a specific series of practical tools, that when used by anyone, can result in consistent and long-term personal transformation. He is also the author of The Mastery of Love,Beyond Fear, and The Voice of Reason, each practical guides to mastery of various aspects of one's life.

A Dog's Purpose (Hardcover)

$22.99

A tail-wagging three hanky boo-hooer, this delightful fiction debut by newspaper columnist Cameron proposes that a dog's purpose might entail being reborn several times. Told in a touching, doggy first-person, this unabashedly sentimental tale introduces Toby, who's rescued by a woman without a license for her rescue operation, so, sadly, Toby ends up euthanized. He's reborn in a puppy mill and after almost dying while left in a hot car, he's saved again by a woman, and he becomes Bailey, a beloved golden retriever, who finds happiness and many adventures. His next intense incarnation is as Ellie, a female German shepherd, a heroic search and rescue dog. But the true purpose of this dog's life doesn't become totally clear until his reincarnation as Buddy, a black Lab. A book for all age groups who admire canine courage, Cameron also successfully captures the essence of a dog's amazing capacity to love and protect. And happily, unlike Marley, this dog stays around for the long haul.
