Just for Kids

We have had wonderful support from the community for our Summer Reading Program for young people, BOA Big on Animals.  Several people have donated their time to visit and speak about animals and caring for animals.

Two wonderful volunteer docents from the Albuquerque Biological Park Zoo to You Program brought a porcupine and a hedgehog.
Many thanks to docents Lisa and Mary Lou.

Leslie Stoddard and Jackie of the Albuquerque Alpaca Ranch brought two baby alpacas!. Thanks to you both.

Three teams from the Warm Hearts Network, a program of Animal Humane New Mexico, taught us about this visiting dog program.
Our thanks to Dick Thayer and his dog Danny, Chelly Weiss and her dog Lilly, and Nancy Harvin and her dog Mose.

Two mid-school students, Adelina and Anastasia, have been on-site assistants.

We have more BOA programs scheduled for the summer including Saturday July 2, 2011.  Keith Donally of the Palo Duro Philatelic Society will teach us how to begin a stamp collection.  We will use this opportunity to introduce the study of animals around the world.  Palo Duro stamp club members have donated a large variety of stamps so that participants will be able to take stamps home after the workshop.

A community is lucky when volunteers are willing to share part of their Saturday morning to teach young people.  Bookworks is honored that these folks and more are joining with us to make this summer reading program possible.
