Former Albuquerque poet laureate Jessica Helen Lopez reads from her new Swimming with Elephants poetry collection, Provocateur.
Jessica Helen Lopez's poetry is her bullhorn. Through it she is able to write of her childhood experiences of poverty, surviving domestic violence, watching the neighborhood around her burn down in the flames of addiction and spiritual degradation. She does not censor herself, nor let anyone censor her. Through verse she speaks to her long held beliefs of intersectional feminism, reproductive rights and abortion accessibility.
